Eject Water From Your Apple Watch Using the Water Lock Feature

The latest Apple Watch is designed keeping all things water sports and fitness in mind. This makes it the perfect smartwatch for those who like to lap in the pool, want to track their laps or find out how far they have surfed. But the wearable’s water-based tracking also comes with a handy water feature: the one known as the Water Lock.

Let me tell you that the Apple Watch may be water-resistant up to 50 meters, but that doesn’t mean the wearable can’t be water when you’re swimming, surfing or even taking a shower. The Water Lock keeps your Apple Watch locked when you’re in the water, and drains the water once you’re done. To keep your Apple Watch nice and dry, follow the steps below.

How to eject water from Apple Watch?

Anyone with an Apple Watch Series 2 or newer will be able to easily switch on Water Lock. Just like you use your Apple Watch as a flashlight, you’ll be able to turn on the feature by accessing Control Center. Turning it on will lock the screen. And closing it with the Digital Crown drains water from the speaker of the Apple Watch.

Step 1: Go to Control Center on your Apple Watch.

  • Swipe up on the watch face. Or while in the app, press the bottom edge of the screen and then pull up Control Center.

Step 2: Tap on the Water lock icon

  • Click on the Water Lock icon (it looks like a water drop).

Start 3: Start Digital Crown

To eject water, turn the Digital Crown until the display is “Unlocked.”

Note: – As soon as you turn on the Digital Crown you will hear a noise and an animation will appear on the screen indicating when the speaker is free of water and when the process is complete.

How Does This Work?

The ability to remove water from your Apple Watch is limited to the Apple Watch Series 2 and newer sets, and will not be available on the original Apple Watch or Apple Watch Series 1.

Now let’s say that Water Lock works by using sound waves that vibrate at the right frequency to force the liquid out of the speaker hole on the left side of your Apple Watch.

You can watch it in action when the watch gets wet, but watching it in slow motion will be much more impressive.

Most models of the Apple Watch have at least an IPX7 water resistance rating, which means they can withstand being submerged in 1 meter of water (just over 3 feet 3 inches) for 30 minutes. The Apple Watch Series 2 and newer is capable of withstanding a depth of 50 metres.
