Around 90 yachts will be bound for Sydney Heads to Hobart on Boxing Day as the world famous Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race returns. There are many great measures taken by the organizers of the race to keep the race COVID safe.

All sailors are required to be double immunized and must have a negative COVID test 72 hours prior to the start to be eligible for the race.

Boats ranging from 100 feet (about 30 meters) to 30 feet are going to be involved in this year’s event. The same 2019 Line Honors winner Komanche will not take part in the race this year but 2019 overall winner Ichi Ban is back to defend his crown.

The shortest distance between Sydney and Hobart is 628 nautical miles; however, the boats travel further as they follow the fastest route available which is in sailing condition throughout the race.

The race begins at 1 p.m. AEDT near Nielsen Park in Sydney Harbour, on its traditional Boxing Day beginning Sunday 26 December 2021, and will conclude on 1 January. The timing of which depends on when the first boat will be able to cross the finishing line in Hobart.
