IHDA application Program

Illinois Rental Payment Program- Illinois Housing Development Authority continues to offer Illinois rental payment program. People check their eligibility and proceed to application. You may be eligible for an emergency rental payment of up to $25,000 and up to 18 months.

Illinois Rental Payment Program

The Illinois Rental Payment Program (ILRPP) provides rental financial assistance to income-eligible Illinois renters and their landlords who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. If you are a tenant in Illinois and are unable to pay your rent due to COVID-19, you may be eligible for up to $25,000 in emergency rental assistance and 18 months of rental payments.

IHDA continues to review applications for the second round of the Illinois Rental Payment Program (ILRPP). In this round of emergency rental assistance, the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) has granted over 6,100 applications totalling $44 million. And we continue to review completed applications as soon as possible.

If you have not yet received a response to your application, please know that funding for this programme is still available. The review process will continue over the coming weeks, with funding for applicants accepted in the early summer. Please check your email and the application portal for status updates as we process your application.

Illinois tenants may be eligible to receive ILRPP assistance if the user meets this requirement:

  • The family is at risk of homelessness or housing instability (ie the house has received past due rent or eviction notices).
  • The family resides in Illinois and rents their home as their primary residence.
  • The household is a low-income household (ie households whose income does not exceed 80% of the median income for the region, adjusted for household size, as determined by HUD). Find your county’s income limits here.
  • One or more persons within the household qualify for unemployment benefits or have experienced a reduction in household income, incurring significant costs, or directly or indirectly or other financial difficulties during the coronavirus pandemic have experienced.
  • ILRPP assistance is available to all eligible renters in Illinois, regardless of immigration status. ILRPP assistance is not a “public fee” benefit.

  • Government-issued photo ID regardless of the expiration date
  • Evidence of past due rent
  • Proof of ownership (copy of the 2020 property tax bill or 2021 monthly mortgage statement)
  • Current signed lease (if available)
  • Fully executed and current property management agreement (if payment is made to the property manager)

Tenants/Renters

  • Government-issued photo ID regardless of the expiration date
  • A utility bill or proof of address from 90 days prior to application (if the address on your ID is not your current address)

  • Re-verification of income (if applicable)

You are free to apply through the local Emergency Rent Assistance (ERA) program. Its application process may vary slightly according to the region. Therefore, you may visit the U.S. to find a rental assistance provider in your area. You can go to the Department of Treasury’s ERA Program Finder and then start the application process.
